PromptPerfect vs PromptMake: Feature Comparison After the Elastic Acquisition

PromptPerfect is dying. PromptMake isn't. If you used PromptPerfect for Auto-Tune, you're probably looking for something that does the same job without a $20/month subscription attached to a product Elastic already wrote off.

This is a straight comparison. Not a victory lap. PromptPerfect had real strengths — Arena, API access, a polished library. PromptMake splits the workflow differently: text and image prompts are two separate tools, and both are free to try without an account.

Fair warning: we build PromptMake. We've tried to flag where PromptPerfect was genuinely better, not just where we're cheaper.

Switch to PromptMake if you used PromptPerfect for day-to-day prompt polishing (text, image, video, audio) and don't need API automation or side-by-side model shootouts.

Look elsewhere if you depended on PromptPerfect's API, Arena comparisons, or Agents workflows. PromptMake doesn't replicate those yet.

Two tools, two jobs: /text vs /image

PromptPerfect put everything in one dashboard: paste a prompt, pick a model, hit optimize. PromptMake splits the work by input type.

promptmake.net/text — for rough ideas, drafts, and text-to-image prompts you type yourself. Categories: Text, Image, Video, Audio. Generate from scratch or Enhance an existing draft. This is the Auto-Tune replacement.

promptmake.net/image — for reference photos. Upload JPG/PNG/WEBP, pick a goal mode (Recreate, Change Style, Adjust Lighting, Create Variation), get a model-calibrated prompt back. PromptPerfect never had vision input. If your workflow started with a photo, this is the feature PromptPerfect couldn't match.

Most former PromptPerfect users need /text. Image creators who worked from references need /image. Some need both.

Prompt optimization (Auto-Tune vs Enhance)

PromptPerfect Auto-Tune: paste a draft, select target model, get a rewritten prompt with clearer structure. Black-box — you see input and output, not always why it changed.

PromptMake Enhance on /text: same workflow. Paste a draft, pick model and category, hit Enhance. Output is model-specific — Midjourney gets comma-separated descriptors and parameter hints, ChatGPT gets role/task/format structure, FLUX gets weighted emphasis syntax.

Verdict: PromptMake covers more models in 2026, especially video and audio. PromptPerfect's Llama support is the main gap on our side — minor for most users.

Image prompts: typed vs uploaded

PromptPerfect optimized image prompts you typed. No photo upload, no reverse prompt from a reference image.

PromptMake /text handles typed image prompts (what you'd paste into Midjourney). /image handles photo-to-prompt with vision analysis — subject, lighting, composition, style vocabulary extracted automatically.

Verdict: PromptMake wins if you work from reference images. PromptPerfect was fine if you always wrote prompts manually.

Arena (multi-model comparison)

PromptPerfect Arena ran one prompt against 2–4 models side by side. Useful for picking GPT vs Claude on a specific task. Burned through daily limits fast (each model counted separately).

PromptMake has no Arena equivalent. You pick one model, optimize, test in your chat app, repeat.

Verdict: PromptPerfect wins. If Arena was central to your workflow, PromptMake won't replace it.

API and automation

PromptPerfect Pro Max ($99.99/month) included API access and Prompt-as-a-Service endpoints. Developers embedded optimization in apps and chatbots.

PromptMake has no public API yet. Manual web tool only. Pro users can export prompts as JSON/XML for copy-paste into backend code, but there's no programmatic optimize endpoint.

Verdict: PromptPerfect wins for production pipelines. Plan a different backend if you automated via API.

Saved prompt library

PromptPerfect stored prompts in your account with folders, tags, and optimization history.

PromptMake gives shareable links per generation and optional account history if you sign in. No folder system, no tag search, no built-in library UI.

Verdict: PromptPerfect wins on library management. Use Notion, a repo, or Raycast snippets alongside PromptMake if you need storage.

Chrome extension

PromptPerfect had a browser extension for in-context optimization.

PromptMake is web-only. Copy-paste loop: optimize on promptmake.net, paste into ChatGPT or Midjourney.

Verdict: PromptPerfect wins on friction for chat-only users. Extensions like PromptAI360 close this gap if in-tab enhancement matters more than free multi-model support.

Video and audio prompts

PromptPerfect handled text and image models. No dedicated video or audio prompt modes.

PromptMake /text has Video and Audio tabs with camera movement, pacing, genre, and mood controls. Sora, Runway, Suno, Udio supported.

Verdict: PromptMake wins if you prompt for video or music generation.

Verdict: PromptMake is cheaper at every tier. PromptPerfect's Pro Max API tier has no direct equivalent on PromptMake today.

Status and maintenance

PromptPerfect: shutting down September 1, 2026. Elastic acquired Jina AI in October 2025 for embeddings and search tech, not this product. No updates, no fixes, no future.

PromptMake: actively maintained. New models added as they ship.

Verdict: not close. A dead tool vs a live one.

Who should switch to PromptMake

You pasted rough prompts into Auto-Tune daily and copied the result into ChatGPT, Claude, or Midjourney. → Use /text.

You optimized image prompts you typed by hand. → Use /text with the Image category.

You had reference photos and wished PromptPerfect could analyze them. → Use /image.

You want video (Sora, Runway) or audio (Suno) prompts. → Use /text, Video or Audio tab.

Who should not switch (yet)

Your production app calls the PromptPerfect API. No PromptMake API exists. Evaluate building your own rewriter on OpenRouter or keeping a manual fallback until we ship API access.

Arena was how you picked models every week. PromptMake won't replicate that. Try Prompt Builder's in-app Assistant or test manually.

You need a searchable prompt library with tags and folders inside the tool. PromptMake is optimize-and-go, not workspace-first. Prompt Builder (promptbuilder.cc) fits better.

You want in-tab enhancement without copy-paste. PromptAI360 or AI Prompt Fixer extensions solve that; PromptMake doesn't.

1. Export your PromptPerfect library (see our export guide on this blog).

PromptPerfect was a solid optimizer for its era. Elastic didn't buy it for PromptPerfect. If your workflow was paste → optimize → copy, PromptMake /text does that today for free. If you ever wanted photo-to-prompt, /image fills a gap PromptPerfect never addressed.
